Robbie Ahmat played his junior football with the Darwin Football Club and represented Northern Territory at secondary school and Teal Cup level. He also represented the Northern Territory Football League on several occasions at senior level.

Possessing  silky skills and genuine pace, Ahmat was drafted by Collingwood at number 47 in the 1994 national draft. He made his AFL debut for Collingwood during the  1995 season, and played 25 games for the Magpies between 1995 and 1997.

At the end of 1997 Ahmat was traded to Sydney and between 1998 and 2001 added another 42 AFL games to his total. A career highlight for the goal-kicking small forward was winning the AFL Goal of the Year award in 2000.

Moving to Norwood, after being delisted by the Sydney Swans, he made his debut for the Redlegs in round 1, 2003. The final score saw the Redlegs defeat Port Adelaide by 11 goals.

Dangerous and exciting, if somewhat inconsistent, Ahmat's stay at the Parade was all too brief, and he played his last game for the Redlegs in the opening round of the 2004 season.

After leaving Norwood, Ahmat played for St. George (Sydney), Southern Districts F.C. in the Northern Territory Football League and Dunolly F.C. in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League.
