Originally from Western Australia, Floyd "Chester" Bennett was educated at Nailsworth Primary School, and then at Prince Alfred College. As a junior, Bennett shone at both cricket and football.

He made his League debut for North Adelaide in 1937, and played another five games the following year.

A wingman/half-forward, Bennett transferred to Norwood in 1940, and made six League appearances for the Redlegs in 1941. His last League match was in Norwood's 1941 Second Semi-Final loss to Sturt. He was concussed during the game and was replaced at three quarter time.

The Redlegs bounced back to win the flag, but Bennett was not selected in the Preliminary Final or Grand Final.

Bennett was also an accomplished cricketer, and played first-class matches for South Australia and Western Australia. He played A grade district cricket as an all-rounder for Prospect, East Torrens and University.

A well-known First X1 cricket coach at Prince Alfred College, "Chester" Bennett is possibly best remembered for his work with the Chappell brothers.
