A goal kicking machine

Norwood's Roy “Cool Alec” Bent was the first great South Australian full forward. In 8 seasons and only 98 games he topped Norwood's goal kicking five times and was the league's leading goal kicker in 1921,1924, 1925 and 1926.

Roy was a member of the 1922, 1923 and 1925 premiership teams and played for the state 17 times including a game against Queensland in which he kicked 17 goals.

As the finals approached in 1923 there was a sensation when he was suspended for six matches for throwing the ball at a boundary umpire and 'bruising his chest'.

Originally from Broken Hill and retiring in Mount Gambier Roy was sadly taken in a car accident returning home, having made the trip to Broken Hill one last time.

Further honours:  SANFL top goal kicker 1921,1924,1925,1926, SA games 17, Goals for SA 60.
