Don Bone joined Norwood from the Pinnaroo North Football Club in 1954. He had been an impressive ruckman for several seasons representing the Pinnaroo and Border Football League in Inter-Association matches.

Bone was a premiership player for Pinnaroo North in 1953, and capped the season off by winning the club's best and fairest award and the Pinnaroo and Border Districts' Mail Medal for best player in the local league.

Mobile and lanky, he showed promise in Norwood's pre-season trials playing in the ruck or at centre-half forward.

He was subsequently named on a half-forward flank in his league debut against Glenelg, in the round 1 clash at Glenelg. Norwood won the match by five goals and Bone kept his spot in the team for the following week.

The following game against North Adelaide was the last time Bone represented Norwood however. He returned to Pinnaroo soon after and played in the 1954 premiership side as well as collecting another Mail Medal.
