From Orroroo, Lachlan "Wizard/Lachy" Bowman played in Norwood Under 17 and Under 19 Premiership teams, before making his League debut in 1991.

Early in the following season however, he was told by the League coach he wasn't a required player and he returned home to the farm. After playing out the season with the Orroroo Football Club he arrived back at the Parade in 1993, desperate to have another go at League football. Bowman was a more confident player, with strong marking and determination a feature of his game. Despite struggling to cement his spot in the League side, Bowman played in his first senior Grand Final - against Woodville-West Torrens.

In 1995, Bowman played just one League game. However, he was a member of the Reserves' premiership team. Norwood defeated South Adelaide by 13 goals, and Bowman was high on the list of best players. He was awarded a Five Year Valuable Service certificate, but his League career appeared to be at the cross-roads once again.

The entire Bowman family had been keen Redlegs supporters and for most of his career, Lachlan made the 500 km round trip from the Orroroo family property, to train and play for Norwood. He persevered, and his efforts were finally rewarded in 1997. Named at centre-half back, he represented the State against the Australian Capital Territory, and was named as one of the best players on the ground. He was also selected at centre-half back in the 1997 Advertiser Team of the Year and was a key performer in Norwood's thumping victory over Port Adelaide in the Grand Final.

Lachlan Bowman reached the 100 game milestone in 1998. The following season he won the Smokey Dawson Best Team Man award and was made a Player Life Member of the Norwood Football Club.

He was a member of the losing Grand Final team of 1999, and played his 150th and final game in the following year's Elimination Final.
