Blair Broadbent was a tall defender at Prince Alfred College and a ruckman-forward with Myponga.

He was named in the best players at full back when Prince's squeaked home against St Peter's, 10.4 to 9.8, in the 1966 intercollegiate match. According to his critique in the PAC Chronicle, he had an excellent season: "He checked closely, marked strongly and kicked in consistently. Potentially a class footballer."

Blair developed as a forward with Myponga in the Great Southern Football League the following season.  Early in 1968 he was off target, kicking 2.9, but Myponga had no trouble in crushing Port Elliot by 43 points despite the valiant efforts of a young Glen Rosser for the losing team.

Recruited by Norwood in 1969, Blair kicked four goals in five reserves games.  In his one league game, he came on in the last quarter against West Torrens at Adelaide Oval, took a mark and kicked a goal. He was back at Myponga in 1970
