Ray Carr transferred to Norwood from Port Adelaide, after his clearance was approved in April 1952.

Playing out of a back pocket, he had been one of Port Adelaide's best players in its 1947 reserves grand final victory.

Carr then played 57 league games for the Magpies between 1948 and 1951. In 1949 he was named the best utility.

His pace and dash allowed Norwood to use Carr as a utility, either rebounding from defence as a back pocket or playing across half forward.

Carr played in the 1952 league grand final loss to North Adelaide.

He had two solid seasons with the Redlegs, making 16 senior appearances in 1952, and 11 in 1953
