Powerfully built, Ugo Colasante was educated at Campbelltown High School and recruited by Norwood from the Athelstone Football Club.
He played 20 matches for the Norwood Reserves in 1975, and another 20 in 1976. Colasante was an important member of the 1975/1976 Reserves premierships.

He made his League debut in 1976, and then played another four senior matches in 1977.

Colasante was involved in another Reserves flag in 1978, as well as making 12 League appearances in Norwood's centenary year.

Early in his career, he struggled to hold his spot in the League team, and was starved of opportunities. After just two senior games in 1979, he spent the 1979 and 1980 seasons playing for Nightcliff in the Northern Territory Football League alongside Norwood team-mate Greg Turbill.

Under new coach Neil Balme, he played 15 League games in 1980, bringing his career total to 34. He was recognised with the Five Years Valuable Service Award.

Despite his physical presence, Colasante was not a strong overhead mark but he developed into a good knock ruckman.

Unfortunately, he crushed his finger in a work accident on the eve of the 1980 Preliminary Final, forcing him to miss that game as well as the
Grand Final the following week.

Colasante played 26 games in 1981 and had become one of Norwood's favourite characters. His last game for the Redlegs was in the 1981
Preliminary Final loss to Glenelg.

In 1982, after 60 League games and 86 appearances for the Reserves,  he moved to the Woodville Football Club where he played 16 games over the next twoseasons.

In 1984 Colasante returned to the Athelstone Football Club.
