Dick Correll was born on 17 October 1867 at Woodside and educated at Pulteney Grammar. He was recruited from Port Adelaide, where he had played between 1886-1889.
A hard working follower, he played State football against Victoria in 1893, and was an important member of the 1891 and 1894 premiership teams. In 1891 he visited Victoria and Tasmania as a member of the Norwood Football Club.
Appointed captain in 1897, he continued his fine form and led by example.
After retiring as a player, "Dick" was appointed secretary of the Veteran Footballer's Association, and worked also for The Advertiser as a horse racing reporter.
He was a Life Member of the Norwood Football Club, also serving on the club's committee.
