Heath Culpitt joined Carlton from Castlemaine (Bendigo Football League) in 1998. He played reserves in his first year with the Blues, and made his AFL  debut in 1999. He continued at Carlton for four seasons (1998-2001), and played 15 senior appearances.

He was delisted after 2001 and returned to the Castlemaine Football Club where he won the 2002 best and fairest award. After a season and a premiership, with St. Marys in the Northern Territory Football League, Culpitt transferred to Glenelg in 2003.

In his three seasons (2003-2005) with Glenelg he played 55 games, and was twice runner-up in the Tiger's best and fairest.

He continued to play for St. Mary's in the NTFL, and in 2005/06 was awarded the Nicholls Medal as the best player in the competition. He later also played for the Waratahs.

The tough midfielder with a strong kick then moved to Norwood in 2006. He made his debut for the Redlegs in the opening round against his old side Glenelg, at the Parade. He played 19 games in his first year and backed that up with 20 the following season.

He spent part of 2008 in the reserves (eight games), but also played nine league games, bringing his SANFL league career total past the 100 mark.

In 2009 he joined the Tea Tree Gully Football Club in the South Australian Amateur Football League, and was named in the SAAFL Team of the Year
