Laurie Eaton played First 18 for Rostrevor College in 1937, and  Junior Colts for the Norwood Football Club in 1938. He progressed to the Senior Colts in 1939 and impressed as a ruckman.

In 1940, Eaton captained the Senior Colts. He was listed as one of the best players in Norwood's Preliminary Final victory against North Adelaide. The side went on to win the premiership, defeating West Torrens in the Grand Final: 7.1 to 6.6.

Eaton made his League debut in the opening round of the 1941 season. Despite playing half the season in the Reserves, Eaton was named on the bench for the all important Grand Final clash against Sturt - Norwood winning 14.16 to 10.11.

In 1942 the well-built follower/back pocket had a season with the Norwood/North Adelaide combination in the South Australian Patriotic League. He played in the opening round of the season, making eight appearances and his last senior appearance was in the 1942 first Semi-Final loss to West-Glenelg.

Eaton then served in the RAAF in World War II.

In January 1944, the Secretary of the SA National Football League, Mr. T. S. Hill, received a letter from Sgt. Harold Huxtable (117 NFC games, 1933-40) at a RAAF station in London, describing football matches being played in Britain by teams from the Australian armed forces. He describes a game played against "Kodak House" by a team which included a number of former players from the SANFL VFL and WAFL including Norwood players Eaton, Huxtable and Graham Farrow (61 NFC games, 1942-49)
