Clem Edwards had played in the Yorke Peninsula Association at 16 years of age, and moved to Adelaide from Wallaroo, in 1928. He began his league career with West Torrens, playing two senior games in 1928.
 
Transferring to Norwood, Edwards then played his first league game for the Redlegs in Round 7, 1930. He was named as a ruckman changing out of the forward pocket. Norwood won the holiday Monday encounter against West Adelaide : 7.12 to 7.6.
 
Edwards' last league appearance was in Norwood's 1935 1st Semi-Final loss to Sturt when he was named as 19th man.
Despite being hampered by injuries, he played 12 league games in 1935, and had been in good form in the 1936 pre-season trials
 
He decided to retire due to business commitments in May 1936, but later returned to play for the Association (Reserves) team.

Edwards was made a Life Member of Norwood's Association team. He first played for the side in 1930, and made his final appearance in 1940.

In 1933 he won the best and fairest award. He captained the Norwood Association team in the 1939 Grand Final against North Adelaide played on the Thebarton Oval. Edwards was in the first ruck and led his team to a 10 point victory - Norwood's third premiership in a row.
