Bob Edwards was one of those rare and fortunate players to play in a premiership in his very first season. Not only that, the half bank flanker was named in the best players in Norwood’s 47 point victory over Glenelg.

Edwards was to play in two more grand finals in 1952 and 1955 but unfortunately they resulted in losses to North and Port, respectively.

Bob won the Best Junior award in his first season and in 1954 he added the Club’s Best and Fairest award in an impressive career.

As well as maintaining a consistently high standard of play, Edwards gained a strong reputation as a defender who could be placed on, and nullify, a forward who was an emerging threat.

Although not playing a State game, in 1954 he did make the state training squad.

As a premiership player, a Best and Fairest winner, Bob Edwards retired in 1957 with a proud and enviable record.
