Ray Gimm was recruited by Norwood in 1961 from the Wembley Football Club, in Perth. He played 16 games for the Reserves in his first season.

Gimm played full back in Norwood's 1961 Reserves Grand Final win against West Torrens. During the year he also made his League debut - in Round 4, against Port Adelaide. He played five League games in his first season.

A reliable defender, he played the majority of his football for the Redlegs at full back.

In 1962 he again played most of the year in the Reserves and was named vice-captain of the team that was eventually beaten in the Grand Final.

1963 was his best season at the Parade. Under new coach Doug Olds, Gimm played a full season of League football as the team's regular full back.

Gimm's last senior game was at the Parade against the newly formed Central District in Round 8 1964. He returned home in 1965.

Ray Gimm passed away on the 5th April 1993 aged 52, after a long illness, in Perth Western Australia.
