John Graham made his debut as a centreman against Port Adelaide in the opening Round of the 1963 season.

Originally from Victoria, he had played in Mt. Gambier the previous year. Former Norwood star, Lionel Blackmore had seen him play and had been particularly impressed by his marking in wet conditions. He was sure in the air, to the extent that his Norwood team-mates nicknamed him "sticky fingers".

A dashing footballer, with a good kick, he was well-suited to playing on a wing or in the centre. He was hampered in his stay with the Redlegs by an arm injury, which resulted in an operation to remove a piece of floating bone from his elbow.

He won Norwood's Best First Year Player award, in his only season at the Parade.
