Born in Kalgoorlie, Trevor Growden joined Norwood from the North Whyalla Football Club in 1995, having won the medal for the best player in the Whyalla Football League in 1994.

A strong and courageous centreman, he played four reserves games with West Torrens in 1989, and then played the 1990 season in Whyalla after deciding to complete a butchering apprenticeship.

Growden played in Darwin in 1991, and had an early season trial with the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles in 1992 before a leg injury forced him back to Whyalla.

He played in the 1994 country carnival as captain of the Iron Triangle team, Northern Cities and his outstanding form obviously impressed Norwood officials.

After joining the Redlegs the following year, his perseverance finally paid off and he made his League debut against Sturt later that season.

In 1996, after some solid performances for Norwood, Growden was selected in the SANFL State squad. However, after only playing one senior game in 1997, he transferred to Glenelg for the 1998 season, where he added another 11 league games.

Growden later played for Kilburn in the South Australian Amateur Football League, making the SAAFL Team of the Year in 1999 and playing State Amateur football in 2000.
