After making his League debut in Round 6, 1935, Hancock went on to play another seven senior games that year.

The following season, he played 14 League games for the Redlegs. On July 15, he played for a South Australian second team against a touring East Perth side. Three days later,  he accompanied a Norwood "A" team to Clare  and played against a combined team from the Stanley Association. Norwood won the game comfortably and Hancock was high in the list of best players. On  October 4th, he travelled to Peterborough, representing the Norwood B's. Hancock was again fast and reliable on his wing, and Norwood defeated Peterborough 13.11- 11.10.

Richard Hancock was a very quick wingman, a good mark, but was somewhat uncertain with his kicking.

In 1937, he left the club early in the season to join YMCA, in the Amateur League. He was invited back to train with Norwood, the week before the "B" Grade Grand Final, however he was not selected in the final line-up.
