Anthony Harvey joined Norwood in 1995 after a brief career with St Kilda and prior to that he had played for Frankston in the VFL.

“Harvs” quickly established himself as a highly skilled, fearless and tireless on baller and a consistent goal scorer.

In 1996 he broke his shoulder during the preliminary final against Port Adelaide, an injury which limited his pre-season training in 1997 and made his achievements that year even more outstanding.

Anthony’s leadership qualities were recognised in 1997 when he captained the side in the grand final against Port Adelaide after Garry McIntosh was ruled out due to suspension. He played exceptionally well in the grand final, kicking three goals and was high in the team’s best players. In that same year he won the Club’s Woods Medal for outstanding leadership and service.

The following year he was appointed as captain after Macca’s retirement and led the club from 1998 to 2001.

Other members of the Harvey family have also excelled on the sporting field. Anthony’s brother Robert is St Kilda’s games record holder and his grandfather Merv Harvey and grand-uncle Neil Harvey both played test cricket for Australia.
