Michael Hobby was educated at Prince Alfred College and played three seasons of Reserves football with Port Adelaide, before joining Norwood in 2001.

A long, left foot kick with an exemplary work ethic, Hobby made his League debut in Round 9, 2001. Although he struggled for consistency in the League team, he won the Reserves Best and Fairest award in his first season at the Parade.

Hard and direct, the midfielder got the most out of his ability, until a frustrating run of injuries forced his premature retirement. His final game was in the last minor round game of 2003.

His father Tony, played and later coached at Port Adelaide.
