Paul Marden James followed his brothers Brett (234 NFC games, 1990-2006) and Roger (76 NFC games, 1995-2005) from the Kersbrook Football Club to The Parade. In 1997 Paul played 23 games in his first year of under 17's football. He won the coach's trophy but the Redlegs were beaten in the grand final.

The following season he added another 15 games in the under 17's, again won the coach's trophy and played eight matches in the under 19's.

James played 15 games for the reserves in 1999 and represented the state at Under 18 level.

After playing 19 games for the reserves in 2000, he made his league debut against Central District in the opening round of 2001, playing 17 matches for the season.

James then moved to North Adelaide and made 38 senior appearances in the next two seasons.

However, the tenacious midfielder was back with Norwood in 2004 under coach Garry McIntosh.

In 2005, with new coach Dale Lewis at the helm, James had a solid season playing 17 league games. He reached his 50 league game
milestone with the Redlegs in 2006, playing eight senior games for the year under yet another coach, Trevor Hill.

James also played his 50th reserves game for the Redlegs during 2006 and came third in the reserves best and fairest.

After leaving Norwood, James returned to the Kersbrook Football Club and has been a dominant force in the Hill Football League
