Andrew Jarvis was born in Mt Gambier and was recruited by Norwood from the North Gambier Football Club in 1982. The left-footed wingman made his League debut in round 16 of that year in a match which saw Norwood run out winners at Thebarton Oval. Unfortunately, Jarvis was injured in Norwood's 1982 Qualifying Final win against Sturt. He broke a bone and damaged ligaments in his foot early in the first quarter.

Whilst he was not able to cement a spot in the League team the following year, Jarvis did win the 1983 Reserves best and fairest trophy.

He took the next step in 1984. Moved to a half back flank, he used his pace and penetrating kicking to great advantage. Jarvis played 28 games for the season (including the Escort Cup series), and was a valuable member of the "History Makers" team that went on to win the premiership from fifth spot.

In 1986, Jarvis was rated best on ground in Norwood's Reserves Grand Final win against Woodville.

Andrew Jarvis transferred to South Adelaide early in the 1987 season, and went on to play 28 League games for the Panthers from 1987 to 1990.
