Mark Jones was a highly talented forward, with a powerful kick, and the ability to score freakish goals. In 1990, playing for the Norwood Under 17's, he kicked 53 goals in 20 games.

He made his League debut in round 18, 1991 - the Redlegs beating West Adelaide 17.15 to 12.11, with Jones kicking four goals. He played seven matches in his debut season.

In 1992, he was the club's leading goal-kicker with 54 goals, playing as a half-forward flanker.

Richmond selected him at pick number 22 in the 1992 National Draft, but Jones decided to play one more season in the SANFL, before moving to Victoria. Unfortunately, he broke his right leg in two places against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval, in his first game of the season. He missed the rest of the year, and was still troubled by the injury in 1994,only managing to play two Reserve games for the season.

Jones joined Broadview in the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) in 1995, and kicked 71 goals for the year. Gradually regaining confidence and form, he was selected in the SAAFL Team of the Year. He continued to play with Broadview, making the SAAFL State team in 1996.

In 1998, the exciting goal-sneak played 16 League games for Central District.

Jones later returned to Broadview, and made the SAAFL Team of the Year in 2000, 2002 and 2003.
