Ben Kemp played seven games for the Norwood Under 17's in 1992, and continued in the club's junior grades the following year.

In 1994, whilst still at Rostrevor College, the creative Kemp represented South Australia at Teal Cup level and made his League debut in round 4 against West Adelaide at the Parade. Kemp played six matches in his first year of senior football.

In 1995, he played another six League games and 14 for the Reserves in its premiership winning season. At the end of the year, Kemp was selected by the Collingwood Football Club in the AFL National Draft. After spending a year on the Magpies' list he returned to the Parade in 1997.

Kemp made a couple of appearances for the senior team, but played most of the season in the Reserves. He played a fine game in the Reserves Grand Final, but sadly the Redlegs lost to Port Adelaide by one point, after leading for the majority of the match.

Kemp then had a season with the Onkaparinga Valley Football Club in the Hills League, before re-joining Norwood in 1999. He had a solid year playing 20 senior games, and being adjudged "Player of the Finals" with the team narrowly beaten in the Grand Final.

2000 was to be Kemp's last season of League football. He made 19 appearances, reached the 50 game milestone  and received  a "Five Year Valuable Service Award."

He later returned to play for Onkaparinga Valley.

A talented sportsman, Kemp also represented the East Torrens Cricket Club at A Grade level, as a right-hand batsman.
