While boarding at Prince Alfred College, Klynton Kitto returned home to play for Arthurton in the Yorke Valley Football Association in the 1955 grand final. The 17 year-old was named best on ground in Arthurton's premiership victory. Later in his career he was to be appointed captain-coach of the Arturton Football Club and captain of the Yorke Peninsula Association team.

At 198cm, 89 kg and able to dispose of the ball with either foot, he was recruited by Norwood to play as a key forward/ruckman.

Norwood signed Kitto after he had shown excellent form in the 1956 country carnival.

The club had first brought Kitto down from Arthurton for the 1957 night series on Norwood Oval and he impressed at centre half forward. During the 1957 season he had played several games as a wingman for Arthurton.

After winning the Mail Medal in 1958, he was named to play in the centre against South Adelaide in Norwood's night series premiership win.

It was to take another two years before he made his league debut.

A talented all-round sportsman, Kitto was also a fine cricketer and athlete. In 1961 he represented SA Country against the touring West Indies team, which included cricketing great Garfield Sobers.

Kitto ran third in the 1965 Stawell Gift and at one time, shared the State record for the fastest 100 and 220 yard sprints run on grass.

After retiring as a player, Kitto umpired for 22 seasons in the Yorke Valley Association
