In 1961 Darryl Koch was best on ground representing a combined Flinders League team that played against a Norwood Reserve side. The wheat farmer from Booleroo Centre was signed up by Norwood later that same day.

Koch made his League debut for the Redlegs in 1962. He was named as 20th man but coach Alan Killigrew had him on after five minutes when Lester Ross (Snr) was injured.

A creative centre half forward, Koch was a sure mark and good on the ground.

Outstanding mid-season form in 1964 saw Koch gain selection in the State squad and named Norwood's Best Forward for the year.

The following season saw him accept a coaching position at Booleroo Centre.

In 1966 he attempted a comeback with Norwood, after a move to Melrose was blocked by Booleroo, but only ended up playing a handful of Reserve games.
