Ernest "Rish" Lord was born at Kapunda on 18 May 1868 and played with Menindie in 1888-1889. His team-mates there called him "Rish" or "Rich" because his play reminded them of Norwood champion Henry Rischbeith

He was prominent for Norwood's second team, the Rovers, in the Adelaide & Suburban Football Association in 1891.  The team finished the season with 18 points out of a possible 24, second to Eastbourne with 19 points.

With two other young players, Percy Barkla and George Kirby, he was given a run in the senior side against Medindie late in the 1891 season when senior players Os Bertram, Dick Correll and Bill Parkinson were rested. Norwood thumped Medindie, 10.18 to 0.3. That appears to be Lord's only senior game with Norwood.
The match was played before a very small crowd at Adelaide Oval on 29 August - just a week before Norwood took the premiership with a two-goal win over Port Adelaide before 10,000  spectators at the same venue.

Lord was Barkla's uncle. Lord was the younger brother of Barkla's mother, Maria, the third daughter of Mr R Lord of Kapunda.

Lord was a foundation member of the Sturt Football Club. He did not play there but was a long-time trainer and was inducted into the Sturt Hall of Fame.

Ernest Lord died in Adelaide on 5 October 1954, survived by his children Stan, Bob, Darcy, Bruce, Marie and Jack
