Maurie Martin was recruited from North Adelaide in 1968. He had played predominantly as a forward for the Roosters, kicking 6.6 in his League debut.

After 44 games with North, he was involved in a swap with Norwood's Barry Hearl. After joining the Redlegs Martin played mainly as a full back.

He held down that position in Norwood's two Reserve premierships in 1969 and 1970 and was a consistent performer; his play characterised by fine marking and kicking, as well as rebounding dashes from defence.

Martin was named the Reserves most consistent player in 1970 and played his one and only League game for the club in Round 11 against South Adelaide; Norwood won the game 14.20 to 13.7.
