Norwood recruited Andrew McLean from North Launceston in the Tasmanian Football League in 2001. He came highly recommended by club legend Gary McIntosh, who was coaching North Launceston at the time.

The high leaping ruckman/key position player had tasted success interstate, before joining the Redlegs. McLean played in the 1995 and 1998 North Launceston premierships, and had represented Tasmania in interstate football.

In 1996, McLean played six AFL games for St. Kilda and was also a member of the Saints' team that defeated Carlton, in the Ansett Australia Cup (Night Premiership).

He then played 9 games with Glenelg in the 1997 season.

While he was a solid contributor, Norwood probably did not see the best of McLean. Struggling to play regular senior football he left the club at the end of the 2003 season, having played just 30 League games in three years.

In 2004, he moved to the Great Southern Football League where he won the Mail Medal playing for Encounter Bay.
