John Nash attended Christian Brother's College, and was an outstanding young sportsman. After joining Norwood, he progressed through the grades, where he was named the most consistent player in Norwood's 1967 Colts team, and played Reserves in 1968.

Nash made his League debut against Woodville in the opening round of 1969. A skilful wingman/half forward, he played 18 matches in his first year of senior football, but surprisingly only added another four over the next four seasons.

In 1972 he played in a Norwood Reserves premiership. He kicked three goals from a half forward flank in the Redlegs' 73 point trouncing of North Adelaide in the Grand Final played on the Adelaide Oval.

He left Norwood at the end of the 1973 season and joined Teachers College in the Amateur League.

An aggressive, right-hand top order batsman, Nash appeared in 51 first class games for South Australia, and played grade cricket for East Torrens, Teachers College and Sturt.
