Rick Neagle was educated in Adelaide at Saint Peter's College. In 1979, he made nine appearances for the Norwood Under 17 team and one for the Under 19's. The following year he played 20 games for the Norwood Under 19 premiership side.
 
Neagle then had a solid 1981, appearing in the Reserves 18 times.

He made his senior debut in an Escort Cup match against West Adelaide in 1982 and  went on to play another 12 games in the second half of that season. Dangerous around goals, he kicked 24 majors, including an unforgettable six goal haul in the 1982 Redlegs' Grand Final win against Glenelg at Football Park. Named as a small forward, the dashing and skilful Neagle played a vital role in the Redlegs 62 point victory.
 
Having consolidated his spot in the side, he played 23 games in 1983 and was equally at home playing as a rover, half-forward flanker, forward pocket or wingman
 
After missing the 1984 season, he played another 19 matches in 1985 and reached his 50 game milestone.
 
He was a member of the 1986 Norwood Reserves premiership team. Named on a wing, he was one of the best players on ground. Final scores : Norwood 24.13 to Woodville 10.16.
 
Neagle played his last season in 1987, finishing with 66 League games and 51 games for the Reserves.
 
After retiring as a player, Neagle served as the Club Physiotherapist from 1993 to 2008.
 
A life member of the Norwood Football Club, he is a Board Member of the Redlegs Foundation, and a member of the Past Players Committee.
 
Rick's brother Brett, played two League games for Norwood in 1986.
