Simon Neave joined Norwood via Dudley United/Keith and progressed through Norwood's junior ranks. He kicked four goals in Norwood's 1985 Under 19's Grand Final victory against Port Adelaide.

A courageous and pacy rover/half forward, Neave was dangerous near goals. He made his senior debut in the 1986 Escort Cup series against West Adelaide and added another nine League games that season. He also made 15 appearances  for the Reserves, helping them win the 1986 premiership.

Struggling to cement a spot in a Norwood side full of talented midfielders, Neave eventually moved to West Torrens (later Woodville-West Torrens). He made his League debut for the Eagles in 1989, and went on to play over 100 games for his new club. He developed into a dashing and reliable defender.

In the 1993 Grand Final, Neave was selected as a back pocket in the Eagles team that easily accounted for Norwood at Football Park.
