Born in Sea Lake, Victoria, Ricky "Steamboat" Pearce moved to Norwood in 1983. He played in the Redlegs Under 19 Premiership team in his first season. In a memorable Grand Final, Pearce kicked five goals from full forward and was also reported.

Strong, aggressive and a good mark, he was capable of playing as a ruckman, or as a key position player at either end of the ground.

In 1984 he played in a losing Reserves Grand Final at full back.

The following season he made his senior debut for Norwood in the Foster's Cup competition against Geelong at Football Park. After impressing in the next cup match against Essendon, Pearce made his League debut in Round 12 of that year. Named as a ruckman/full forward, he kicked five goals against North Adelaide, at Prospect.

In 1986 he had a day out in round 5, kicking nine majors against West Torrens at the Parade.

Pearce struggled to keep a regular League spot in the strong Norwood sides of the mid-1980's. He was however, an important contributor to the Norwood Reserves flags of 1985 and 1986

Turning to coaching, his stints have included time in country Victoria and with Port Districts, Portland and Rosewater, in the South Australian Amateur Football League.
