Ross Porritt was an excellent club man who gave Norwood great service in many areas. A student at Norwood Boys Technical School, Porritt had shown obvious promise as a future League footballer with leadership qualities, while playing in Norwood's junior grades.

He joined the Norwood Colts in 1961 and then captained them in 1962. In 1963 he played as a ruckman/utility and was again captain of the Colts. At the end of their season, he was promoted to the Thirds for the finals, subsequently playing in the premiership winning team.

In 1964 Porritt won the Most Consistent Player award for the Thirds, playing  as a centre half back. The following season he was runner-up in the Thirds Best and Fairest, and was captain of the Premiership side.

He played only one Reserve game early in 1966 due to injury and then moved to Payneham in the Amateur League for the rest of the year.

Porritt made his League debut in 1967 as a half Back flanker, but was playing at full back by the end of the season.

However, it was as a reliable, rebounding half back that Porritt made his name and where he played the great majority of his 150 League games.

He was vice-captain between 1969 and 1973.

Porritt continued to serve the club after retiring as a player. He coached the Under 17's, was League runner from 1980 to 1985, Assistant Team Manager from 1986 to 1990, and was appointed League Team Manager in 1991.

Ross Porritt was made a club Life Member in 1993.
