Michael Poulter was one of Norwood's most popular players in his time at the club. Recruited from the Northern Territory as a full forward in 1968, he went on to play in a number of different positions including centre, wing, ruck-rover, half forward and full back.

He was able to continue playing for the Waratah Football Club (Northern Territory Football League) in the summer, and normally returned to the Parade just in time for the start of the SANFL season.

A personal highlight would have been winning Norwood's Best and Fairest in 1970. Playing mainly in the centre, he was rewarded with State Squad selection in the same year. Excellent overhead, with a long kick, the utility reached his 100 game milestone in 1973.

Poulter was an important member of the 1975 Premiership side that broke the 25 year drought, defeating Glenelg in the Grand Final.

After 10 years playing at League level in the SANFL, Poulter transferred to the Athelstone Football Club (South Australian Football Association) in 1978.
