Hamish Tamlin played eight games for the Norwood Under 17's in 1995. The following season he represented the State Under 16's,and was selected in the All-Australian team. Tamlin missed the 1997 Under 17's Grand Final through injury. In 1998, "Tamo" played eight games in the U/19's, 12 in the Reserves, and represented South Australia at U/18's level. He was later also named Under 20 State captain.

Tamlin made his League debut in the last minor round game of the 1999 season. Despite an impressive first-up performance against South Adelaide, he again missed the finals series through injury. He was named the Reserves Best and Fairest for the year.

In 2000 he added another eight League games to his total, but injury again severely interrupted his career in 2001. After damaging his kneecap in a pre-season game and missing 10 weeks as a result, he then re-injured his knee at training. Another operation meant he only played four Reserves matches for the year.

Late in 2002 he appeared with St Peter's Old Collegians in the SA Amateur Football League, and the following season decided to have another go at league football. He was a joint winner of the Reserves Magarey Medal, and appeared another six times at League level.

Despite not having played many senior games, Tamlin is remembered as a hard running, tenacious footballer with a strong attack on the ball.

On leaving the SANFL, Tamlin has appeared for several country clubs including Keith ( Kowree-Naracoorte- Tatiara Football League), Newtown and Chilwell FC (Geelong Football League), Nirranda (Warrnambool) and Apollo Bay (Colac & District Football League)
