David "Trotts" Trotter played his early football in Lockhart, a country town in NSW, and completed his secondary education at Assumption College in Victoria.

After playing in the Under 16 championships, Trotter was selected in the AFL Academy (Australian Institute of Sport) and subsequently toured Ireland with the squad.

Trotter also played for the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup* U18 competition whilst at Assumption, and for NSW/ACT in the national under 18 championships.

He was drafted by North Melbourne at pick nine in the 2003 national draft.

A rebounding footballer, noted for his ability to run with the ball, Trotter was a good decision maker with a penetrating kick.

Unfortunately Trotter was to be severely hampered by recurring hamstring problems and in the four years he played for North Melbourne only managed seven AFL games.

Delisted at the end of the 2007 season, Trotter moved to South Australia to join Norwood. He had a fine debut season with the Redlegs in 2008.

The stylish Trotter rarely wasted a disposal, and was an integral part of the Norwood midfield.

He was named the 2008 Player of the Finals, and the following season was elected to the leadership group. Continuing his good form, he again played 14 League games for the season.

Trotter's last game for Norwood was in the 2010 Grand Final.

After travelling overseas on a working holiday, he returned to Australia, and later began his career as a player agent in the AFL.

* The TAC Cup was a VFL/AFL under age competition sponsored by the Transport Accident Commission
