Brian Woodcock played his junior football at Norwood High School before joining the Norwood Football Club. Older brother Don was already at the Club and younger brother Roger joined them several years later.

Brian came up through the Colts(U17) and Thirds(U19) and played in the Thirds premiership team in 1963, kicking six goals at full forward. In 1964 he was selected in the State U19 team and in the same year won the Tomkins Medal for best and fairest in the competition.

In 1965 he graduated to the Seconds and commenced what was to be an outstanding career in the team over the next eight years. Playing on a wing, Woodcock was a tenacious and skillful footballer with a beautiful kick and strong mark for his small stature. He featured in three Seconds premierships (1966, 1970, 1972), won four Best & Fairest awards from 1965 to 1968 and was selected in the 1966 State team. The pinnacle of a distinguished career, which spanned 153 Seconds and four League games, came with his Seconds Magarey Medal win in 1966.

In spite of his achievements over  a long period, it is remarkable that Brian only played four games for the senior side but apparently the selectors considered him too light for league football.

Brian Woodcock retired from Norwood at the end of the 1972 season and joined Payneham in the Amateur League where he played 120 games including a victorious grand final in 1978. He was a member of the State Amateur League team in 1975 and won the Payneham best and fairest award in 1974 and 1977.

In terms of his team and individual achievements over a long playing career, Brian Woodcock rates as one of the finest footballers to have worn the Norwood colours.
