It was a case of history repeating itself when the Norwood women’s team emulated the achievement of the 1878 men’s team by winning the premiership in its first year.
Norwood entered the game having won four of the six matches played in the inaugural season with a win and a loss against its grand final opponent and minor premiers, North Adelaide .
Redlegs captain Rebecca McMahon made a calculated risk after winning the toss by kicking into a strong breeze but Norwood was able to restrict North scoring and honours were shared at the end of the first quarter. From then on the Redlegs drew away to record a comfortable win by 27 points.
Sophie Li was best on the ground with 23 disposals and two goals with support from Marijana Rajcic with19 disposals and two goals and Ruth Wallace with 18 disposals and two goals.
