A solid and skilful mid-fielder, Billy Dolan joined Norwood from the South Broken Hill Football Club in 1991. At the time, Broken Hill was part of Norwood's recruiting zone. Dolan only made a couple of appearances for the Redlegs in his first year; one for the Under 17's and one in the Under 19's.
In 1992, Dolan played another six games for the 19's and 12 for the Reserves. Still only 17 years of age, he also made his League debut, playing five games for the season.
Dolan had a solid season in 1993, playing 18 senior games, and made another 14 appearances in 1994.
He continued his career with South Broken Hill and became a prominent figure in the Broken Hill Football League. Apart from winning two Mail Medals, he played in several flags and represented the BHFL on many occasions.
Dolan also had a stint with Mildura South in the Sunraysia Football League (North-West Victoria).
