Peter C Aish
(1953 – 1962)
Having worked his way through the ranks at Norwood, Peter Aish made his league debut as a nineteen year old in 1953. Elegant and highly accomplished, he played as a follower for most of his first three seasons before being tried as a half-forward and then across half-back in 1956.
Always a highly respected figure at the Parade, Aish was installed as club captain in 1960, and his form flourished. Playing mainly as a full back, Peter won Norwood’s best and fairest award in 1960, shared the award with Bill Wedding the following year, and capped another highly consistent 1961 finals campaign by being his team’s best player in the grand final.
He made his South Australian interstate debut as a half-back flanker at the 1956 Perth carnival and went on to play a further four times for the State.
After captaining the club for one further season, Peter retired in 1962 with 162 SANFL games and nine goals to his credit.
Peter is the patriarch of the Aish football dynasty which continued to distinguish itself at Norwood through his sons Andrew and Michael and grandsons Jessie and James.
Andrew served the club with great distinction over six seasons and in 2012 his son James became the youngest SANFL footballer to play in a premiership team.
Michael through his extraordinary football achievements was an inaugural Hall of Fame inductee in 2006 and his son Jessie played for Norwood between 2006 and 2013.
Peter Aish’s legacy lives on.
Already a Life Member of the Norwood Football Club, Peter Aish was welcomed as it’s 51st Hall of Fame Inductee.
