Ian Adams made his League debut for Norwood in Round 9, 1947 after playing for the Norwood Association team (reserves) the previous year.
At the end of the 1946 season Adams had travelled to Whyalla and played for a Norwood "B" team against North Whyalla.
He was named as a reserve in his first League game - Norwood winning the match 15.17 to 13.17, in front of an estimated crowd of well over 20,000.
Later that year, Adams represented Norwood against a combined Upper Murray Association team. Played at Renmark, he had been impressive on a half back flank and was named in the best players.
Generally regarded as a defender, Adams was selected on a half back flank against South Adelaide in the final minor round game of the 1947 season. It was to be his last game of League football however, as he subsequently missed the 1947 finals series.
In 1948 the promising Norwood junior transferred to Naracoorte (Naracoorte-Kowree League)
