Recruited from Rostrevor College, Josh Allen captained the Norwood under 18 side in 2010 and also played 10 games for the reserves during the season.
 
A determined and reliable defender with good anticipation and kicking skills, Allen made his league debut in round 13 the following year; he played six senior games in his first season and 17 in the reserves. In 2012 he played another 16 games for the reserves.
 
Allen then transferred to the Athelstone Football Club (South Australian Amateur Football League) in 2013 and made an immediate impact, playing in the SAAFL State team, and winning Athelstone's best and fairest award.
                                                                                                                                                         
His good form continued and he was named club captain in 2015. Allen was also a member of the SAAFL State Team that took out that year's championships.
 
He later joined the Kalgoorlie City Football Club in the Goldfields Football League
