David "Rocky" Armour was born in Geelong and had played for Geelong and East Perth before being recruited by Norwood in 1978, the club's centenary year.
 
The tall utility originally joined Geelong from the St. Mary's Football Club and made his League debut against Collingwood in 1974. He opened his senior career in fine style, scoring goals with his first two kicks, and snaring four for the match.

Armour was a member of the Geelong Reserves team that won the 1975 flag when he was named on a half-forward flank. In three seasons with Geelong he played 19 league games, and in 1977 he transferred to East Perth in the West Australian Football League.
 
Armour played 18 games in his only season for East Perth. He was named at centre half back in East Perth's Grand Final loss to Norwood in the Ardath Cup.

At Norwood, Armour proved to be a valuable and reliable addition to the team, playing as a ruck-rover, and capable of resting forward or back. Named on a half back flank for the 1978 Grand Final, he had the distinction of winning a premiership in his first season for Norwood. He played 69 games in three years, despite fracturing his cheekbone early in 1980. His last game for Norwood was the 1980 Grand Final loss to Port Adelaide.

In 1981 David Armour returned to Victoria, and played for Geelong West in the Victorian Football Association.
