BIO
Bob Ashby was an outstanding footballer with Prince Alfred College. A good mark and a fair kick, he played for Norwood Thirds in 1959 and 1960, being an integral part of the 1960 premiership, and was named best ruckman for the season. During the season he also represented the combined South Australian Thirds team, against the Victorian Football League, on the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
He made his League debut in 1961 under coach Alan Killigrew and was named on the bench in the 1961 Grand Final. The week before, he had been in Norwood Reserves' best players in its Grand Final win over West Torrens.
The journey from Hallett to train for the five seasons he played senior football and increasing work commitments on his property, eventually forced him into an early retirement, after playing two games in 1965.
Bob Ashby was awarded the Players five Year Certificate in 1965.
