BIO

Thomas (Tom) Bennett was a member of Norwood’s 1891 premiership team, along with his brother Chris Bennett. He was also included in the Norwood side which toured Tasmania in May and June 1891.

Known as a solid and dependable utility, Tom began his senior career with West Adelaide in 1887, together with Chris. It was a tough year for the Bennett brothers, as West finished its only season in the SA Football Association at the foot of the ladder.

Tom and Chris Bennett went on to join North Adelaide, another struggling team which finished fifth in 1888 before merging with the Adelaide Football Club. They then turned out with Adelaide in 1889 and 1890, before moving to Norwood in 1891.

Away from football, Tom was a talented runner, competing over long and short distances and in hurdle races.

Tom Bennett was employed as a bootmaker. Born and bred in the West End of the City of Adelaide, he  lived for many years in Elizabeth Street, near the Cumberland Arms Hotel. He passed away in September, 1927, at the age of 59.
