After playing his early football at Brahma Lodge and Lobethal football clubs, Michael Bratton played Under 17's for Norwood in 2000 (17 games) and in 2001 (19 games), winning the best and fairest in his second year.
In 2002, Bratton became a member of a select group of players in the club's history to go straight from the Under 17's into the league team. He made his senior debut in the opening round and played two games for the season, spending most of the year in the Reserves (13 games).
Bratton had impressed whilst representing South Australia in the 2002 Under 18's national championships, and the talented mid-fielder with a strong work ethic was rookie-listed by the Adelaide Crows at the end of 2002.
He played eight league games for the Redlegs in 2003, and 14 the following season. At the end of 2003 he was de-listed by the Adelaide Crows.
In 2005, after playing three league games early in the season, Bratton transferred to the Sturt Football Club where he made another 65 senior appearances.
Bratton also played for Waikerie (Riverland Football League, 2011-2015), before moving to the Barossa District Football Club (Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association) in 2015
