Horace Stanhope Cowan was one of eight children (seven sons & one daughter) born to Sarah and James Cowan

Died: 19 January 1945 in South Australia

1894 - played in a PAC past v present football match on 12 June
1895 - played in a PAC v SPC match on 21 June and was named best player in a 6 point win against Saints. Lewis & Gosse were named best players for Saints. Played for a combined PAC & SPC team against South Adelaide on Adelaide Oval, 17 August, competed in the Semaphore Shore Sports in November and was 1st in the Sheffield Handicap over 135 yards and 1st in the Boys U/16 Race over 100 yards.
1896 (7 games) - one of many juniors introduced in 1896. Capital form in the second half of the season. Won the 220 yards old scholars race at the PAC Annual Sports on 12 September.
1897 (16 games) – clever and dashing on the wing. 2nd in the 220 yards for the old scholars at the PAC Sports on 18 September. Played for Norwood against Collingwood in a 1 point win on the Adelaide Oval in front of 21,000 spectators on 14 June and named in the best players along with Green, Padman and Daly. 
Cowan distinguished himself by running away from Munyard of Port Adelaide in August.  
1898 (12 games) – very consistent on the wing. Dodging, running and marking, all very good
1899 (16 games) – inter- colonial game in Melbourne on 12 June 
1900 (13 games)
1901 (15 games) – Premiership player, elected by the players to the match committee, played in Norwoods first game at Norwood Oval on 4 May
1902 (5 games)

Horace's brothers William, Frank, Leslie and Darcy also played for Norwood
