(R or A) Deakin joined Norwood from the Portland Imperial Club (Adelaide and Suburban Association) in 1903.
In late April he played for Norwood in a trial against East Torrens.
Deakin made his league debut in the fourth round against Port Adelaide at Alberton and played well enough to be mentioned as one of Norwood's better players on the day.
The promising footballer was amongst the best players the following week in the game against Sturt.
On June 8, 1903 he was a member of the Norwood team which travelled to Strathalbyn to play a combined side from the Hills Association. He was named in the centre, and Norwood won the match easily.
Deakin continued to improve and was a regular in the senior side.
His final game was in Norwood's loss to Port Adelaide in the 1903 semi-final, played on the Adelaide Oval.
