Barry Dolphin transferred to Norwood from Koolymilka in the Woomera Football League for the start of the 1961 season. He had earlier played in Western Australia.
In 1960 Dolphin was the winner of the Mail Medal in the Woomera Football League for the best player in the competition.
A skilled centreman or wingman, Dolphin made his senior debut on the wing for Norwood in the pre-season Advertiser Cup night series . Norwood was defeated by Sturt 7.11 - 8.11.
He played another four league games in 1961: his last senior game was in Norwood's first semi-final victory over West Torrens.
Dolphin played most of the season in the reserves and was a member of the premiership team that defeated West Torrens in the 1961 reserves Grand Final. Dolphin was selected on a half back-flank. Final Scores : Norwood 12.17 to West Torrens 7.10
