BIO

A big forward from the tiny Victorian railway town of Serviceton, Barrie Farrow was named on the bench for his lone league game – against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval in 1961.

Norwood’s win by three points, 11.13 to 10.16, was its first at Alberton since 1954. One of his teammates that day, the legendary Wally Miller, said some six decades later: “He was a big forward, a left-footer I think, who showed promise in the reserves. He certainly had a tough gig for his league debut, Port at Alberton. I remember that game for its brutality and injuries. Typical Port in those days.”

Barrie kicked 75 goals in 33 reserves games for Norwood from 1960 to 1962.

Born on 17 August 1940, Barrie and his wife Helen were the parents of Penny, Kate and Tom.  It is likely he was the Barrie Farrow who in 1980 partnered with Hong Kong-based GP Batteries as their approved Australian and New Zealand importer, distributor and sales agent. He died in Adelaide on 8 August 2024.
